Before designing and creating our fashion design for our fashion show, we must understand the importance in how recycling benefits our society and environment.

Activity 1: What is Recycling?:

  • We will learn about the 5 R’s (how we can refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot)
  • How recycling benefits in limiting waste damage upon our environment.
  • We will know how we can contribute to sustainability, by understanding how we can ethically dispose or recycle our waste or unwanted objects, and by limiting our generation of waste.
  • The question and answer part of the video provides students to be actively involved by voicing responses of how we should sort waste ethically in benefiting a sustainable society and environment.


Activity 2: What is Fast Fashion?:

  • Students will learn about fast/trendy fashion and its damaging impact which destroys the sustainability of our society and environment.
  • Students will discuss about how trends in fashion and social media can influence the frequency and amount of fashion pieces we buy and use yearly.
  • Students will understand and reflect upon the environmental and humanity concerns and issues of fast fashion, by questioning human exploitation in working at sweatshops, the environmental factors in generating ingredients and producing fashion items and designs.
  • Present concerns and issues of environmental and humanity/society – show videos/photos of exploited workers in clothing/sweat factories, and facts of environmental factors in producing ingredients (cotton) for design materials and products.

Activity 3: Up-cycling and Re-purposing Fashion:

  • Students will learn about reusing, recycling and re-purposing old clothes into new fashion.
  • How their active involvement in reusing, recycling and re-purposing fashion, provides benefits and improvements to society and environmental sustainability: (reduced landfill, finances, reduced pollution of production processes etc.)
  • They will understand how recycled fashion can be fashionable and exclusive in individuality and creativity by watching eco-fashion weeks and runways and reforming clothing YouTube videos.

Final Task – Create your own fashion design:

Create your own fashion design from recycled, reused, and re-purposed fashion designs and materials to showcase in our very own Eco-friendly fashion show!
